Additional Services

We understand that life is busy. That’s why Jefferson Security Bank offers overdraft protection with select JSB checking accounts.

What is Overdraft Protection?

Overdraft protection privileges allow JSB to authorize and pay items that would result in a checking account being overdrawn.

The limit for an overdraft is $500.00. Consumer checking accounts may qualify for overdraft privilege through Bounce Protection. This discretionary service provides built-in protection against accidental overdrafts which may be created by a check, in person withdrawals, ATM withdrawals or transactions performed by other electronic means.
This protection will not be available for ATM and everyday debit card transactions unless you authorize the Bank to do so by providing an affirmative opt-in consent.

Youth Checking and Second Chance Checking Accounts are not eligible for overdraft privileges.

Jefferson Security Bank does not encourage you to present transactions for payment against insufficient or uncollected funds in your account.

Will I Be Charged if I Overdraft My Account?

You will be charged an overdraft or returned item (non-sufficient/NSF) fee of $32 for each item paid plus a daily fee of $2 for each business day the account remains overdrawn starting on the second business day.

How Do I Get Overdraft Protection?

Overdraft Protection is a discretionary service available with Rewards Checking, Simple Checking, and Senior Checking accounts. This is not an automatic checking account benefit. You need to opt-into JSB’s overdraft privilege program for authorization and payment of overdrafts for ATM and everyday (one-time) debit card transactions. Without your affirmative opt-in consent, we will not authorize payment of ATM and everyday (one-time) debit card transactions that would overdraw your account, and the transaction will be declined. There are no fees for declined transactions. You may opt-in or out for ATM and everyday (one-time) debit card transactions at any time by calling 304-876-9000 or stop by your local JSB office.

How Do I Avoid overdrafts and overdraft fees?

Jefferson Security Bank encourages you to manage your finances responsibly but also knows that emergencies or unexpected circumstances happen. The following services and tips may help you avoid overdraft fees altogether.
  • Monitor your account activity with JSB’s telephone banking, online banking and mobile banking services. You can conveniently and securely access and manage your money from your computer, tablet or mobile device.
  • Set up Account Alerts. Stay informed by setting up a low balance alert in Online Banking.
  • Keep track of your transactions. Record all deposits and withdrawals including ATM withdrawals, debit card transactions, automatic payments and checks utilizing a free check register.
  • Keep a cushion in your account. Maintain a level of extra funds in your account to help prevent unintended overdrafts and avoid fees.
  • Use Direct Deposit for Your Paycheck. This ensures that you will have access to your paycheck timely.
  • Review your statements. Reconcile bank statements with your records.
  • Set up Sweep Protection. Link your checking account to another JSB deposit account and set up sweep protection to allow the transfer of funds from another account to cover the overdraft.
Please note: Jefferson Security Bank’s Bounce Protection overdraft privilege does not constitute an actual or implied obligation of or by the Bank. The service represents a purely discretionary courtesy or privilege that the Bank may provide to you from time to time and which may be withdrawn or withheld by the Bank at any time without prior notice or reason or cause.

Jefferson Security Bank does not encourage you to present transactions for payment against insufficient or uncollected funds in your account.

No one likes overdraft fees. But sometimes life gets busy, and overdrafts happen. That’s why we offer checking account holders an opportunity to avoid overdraft fees with Sweep Protection.

What is Sweep Protection?

JSB offers the capability to connect your checking account to another JSB checking or savings account via a “sweep” mechanism. When you have Sweep Protection, JSB automatically “sweeps” the funds from the linked account to cover the overdrawn transaction.

You must have another JSB checking or savings account linked to the account from which you are making the withdraw. Funds are transferred in increments of $100, with a $5 fee for each transfer. This service ensures that each item is paid, helping you avoid overdrafts. You must have enough money in the linked account to cover the sweep.

How Do I Setup Sweep Protection?

To enable Sweep Protection, contact a JSB representative. You can utilize the online banking feature to link your checking account with a savings account or a secondary checking account. If you only have one JSB checking account, you will need to open a savings account, or open another checking account.
